Black - The Untold Life of Claudette Colvin
Montgomery, Alabama. Here, being black gives no rights but many duties. On March 2, 1955, on the bus where she took a seat, Claudette Colvin refused to get up to give up her seat to a white woman. Despite threats from the armed driver, other white passengers and some black passengers, she remained seated. Nine months before the famous Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin, a young fifteen-year-old African-American woman, was arrested. She was the first to plead not guilty. It was the beginning of a journey that would lead her from struggle to oblivion. This book pays tribute to her.
